This Congo gorilla trekking safari starts in Kigali on Day 1 and ends in Kigali on Day 4, combining gorilla trekking, volcano hiking, and breathtaking scenery in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Pickup can also be arranged from a different location upon request.

4 Day Congo Gorilla Trek and Nyiragongo Volcano Hike: Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Our guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport or your hotel and take you for a Kigali city tour where you will see some of the city’s top attractions including the genocide memorial center.

After lunch, you will transfer to Gisenyi and then cross the border to Goma in DR Congo. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge

Destination:  Virunga National Park

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in the Virunga National Park

Wake up early, have your breakfast and then transfer to the Bukima park station in Virunga National Park in Congo for briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. This will be done by the park rangers, after proceed for a mountain gorilla trek in Congo Jungle Forest. This trek takes 3-6 hours and once they are found, you will stay with them for an hour as you take photos and watch them playing with their young ones in their natural life. You will later return to the park headquarters as you prepare to transfer to Goma after trekking gorillas and stay at Hotel relaxing.

Day 3: Hike Nyiragongo Volcano

After the early morning breakfast, take a short drive from Goma to Kabati which is the starting point for Nyiragongo climbing with Virunga National Park. You will have a briefing with the park rangers and start hiking the Nyiragongo volcano and go through the impressive rain forest and continue on the lava eruption fissure and reach the summit. Have the whole of the evening enjoying the view from the crate and as you watch the lava inside.

Dinner and overnight inside the crater.

Day 4: Descending the Nyiragongo Volcano

Have breakfast and after descending down from Nyiragongo volcano mountain, you will meet the driver and return to Goma if time allows, you will have a city tour of Goma visit Goma caves, and then proceed to the border to cross to Rwanda and drive to Kigali International Airport.
